To the Newcomer

Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women from all walks of life who meet in order to help solve a common problem - compulsive overeating, which includes obesity, anorexia, and bulimia. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively. Please read "Our Invitation to You", check out our website, attend a meeting, or call for more information. Whatever your problem with food, OA welcomes you.

NOTE: The Welcome for OA meetings has been updated by the World Service Office. Groups are encouraged to add it to their meeting formats.

“Welcome to Overeaters Anonymous; we are a growing, evolving Fellowship with in-person and virtual meetings around the world. In OA, there are opportunities for recovery and to give service at local and virtual group, intergroup/service board, region, and world service levels. We strive to provide literature and support in every language, worldwide, to meet still-suffering compulsive eaters wherever they are."

“As we extend the heart and hand of the OA Fellowship to those who still suffer, let us be mindful of OA’s Unity with Diversity Policy, which respects our differences, yet unites us in the solution to our common problem. Whatever problem you may have with food, you are welcome at this meeting, regardless of race, creed, nationality, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other attribute.”

Quick FAQs:
These are pages from service bodies so they do not break any traditions within OA. Liking a page is anonymous to the public. Only the page administrators can see who likes it. Likes and Sharing are different and are handled on the side of individual follower Facebook accounts. In order to maintain anonymity, members can:
  • Mark their own account as private, meaning no posts are "public"
  • Mark their shared posts to friends only, or for their own eyes only
  • There are ways to privatize likes and shares based on page "category"
  • Members can (for individual posts) mark for friends only, disclude certain friends and allow certain friends to see their shares; drilling down to individuals
